I grew up in a large family where music and dance was an integral part of any family gathering. I was fortunate in that family gatherings were a regular occurrence and Sunday lunch at my grandmother’s house always led to music and dance in the afternoon with the extended family.
At age 5, I was learning to jive to the Jive Bunny or Waltz with my grandfather and a lifelong love for music was nurtured at an early age. After school I went on to study and completed a Master’s Degree in Psychology and worked for many years in various corporate organisations both locally and abroad.
After my daughter was born, I decided that I had had enough of corporate and decided to pursue a career in music and movement as I had enrolled my daughter in a music program at 8 months old and was amazed at the developmental benefits as well as the special time together in class. I have NEVER looked back!
I am now going into my 8th year working with babies and children in the musical environment and passionately believe in the power and the magic of music to touch young lives. Both my girls are passionate about music and attend lessons in my Studio every week. As they graduate to Big School, they will move on to more formal training with a wonderful pre-music foundation behind them.
I am privileged to teach special needs children and am constantly humbled and amazed at their ability to teach me about life and unconditional love. I am also deeply moved by their progress and what they have achieved in my classes. I am grateful every day to have found my passion in life and to bring so much love and learning to so many children every single day.
My job is to sing and play and there can be nothing better than that!
I was introduced to music and drama quite early on in my school career. I starred in all the plays the school had to offer after which I started with formal piano lessons at age 11. My high school years consisted of singing in the school choir from Gr 8 – 12 and also being actively involved in the debate team from age 12. So performing came fairly naturally to me with my imagination running wild more often than not.
After completing studies in various fields, I have now come back to my roots, which is teaching. My grandmother, my mother and my sister are teachers. I never thought myself to be a teacher, until I came across teaching with music as a medium. I have come to understand my own children better and have also seen the positive impact that music has on their lives.
I am going into my 7th year of teaching music and movement to pre-school children and I also have 18 months experience in teaching in a studio environment with children from ages 4 months to 6 years old. I am so grateful to be in this position to make a positive, uplifting difference in the lives of little children. My heart beats happily when I see how their confidence grows and how much love the children have to give. In what other job are you allowed to make a noise, dance and sing every day, play all the time and be rewarded with the biggest hugs and loves you can imagine! Life is good!

Me… A nursery school teacher? Never! That’s not until l came across my maths high school learners who were in the orchestra. There was just something different about them and l wanted to find out more. Why were they so calm? Why could they concentrate much longer? Why did they have fun solving maths problems?
Clearly the answer was where it all begins-elementary school. Having studied human movement at university level, it came naturally for me to work in an environment where l can use my skills.
7 years later, I still love making my kids dance and sing at the top of their voices. I love teaching them to sing in different languages. I love seeing the curious faces when l open my box.
Music and movement doesn’t only develop skills in the classroom. It also teaches them to be creative outside the classroom and most of all to have fun!
Since I can remember I have surrounded myself with music. As a child, I always followed the latest trends in music and was part of the choir throughout my whole school career. I also wanted to work with small children, so after school I studied B prim Ed (Pre Primary) at the University of Pretoria. During my time at university, I joined Radio Tuks and was fortunate to be an on-air DJ (these days known as Tuks FM 107.2). It was a wonderful experience to share my love for music with thousands of people.
My love of music did not go away and when I had the opportunity to work with small children through music, it was a perfect fit. It is an immense privilege that I now am able to share this love of mine and teach children to appreciate all kinds of music. Teaching young children about life through music and movement is my passion. I have two children myself, and seeing the big influence music has in their lives just enhances this passion. I love going to classes every day and get rewarded with warm smiles and happy faces.
The children learn so much through music and by being part of Music Box. It is a life changing experience.

We could always start with the usual: I was born, I grew up… My life truly started when I found my niche! I tried several different career paths and none of them seemed to fit quite right. When I was introduced to music and movement 6 years ago, I heard the calling! 6 years of being able to say “I LOVE WHAT I DO!”
I have very musical parents who play guitar and piano and there was always music in my household and they have truly shaped my passion for teaching children the love I found with music. In school I was involved in drama and the choir and later I learnt to play the piano (Mommy taught me everything I know!).
Owning a business where you get to “play” all day is a dream come true. There is nothing more gratifying than being part of a child’s development. There is no sound like a child’s laughter and no greater gift than a happy human being. The rewards of endless cuddles and utter appreciation are truly a blessing.
I look forward to many more years of sharing love and music with the stars of our future.
